A device may want to be allocated to the end user after managed by Apple DEP and KACE Cloud for the personal usage. In order to do this the following steps should be followed:
Search for the device by serial number in business.apple.com, click the “Release” button and confirm the release, then select the device in KACE Cloud and send a factory reset command. But even after following these steps if the device's backup gets restored while it was under the DEP management, the profile will be restored to the device and it may not be removed by the end user if the DEP policy did not allow it during the initial configuration.
This is the expected behavior while the device is no longer under the management of DEP, the profile will be restored and the end user may be prompted that the device is in supervised mode therefore the profile could not be removed.
In order to overcome the problem the device can be synchronized to iTunes and a factory reset performed on it then the iOS device needs to be setup as a new device and the old data could be synchronized back to it. The old backup should not be restored since it will only restore the profile back to the device again.
