KACE recommends disabling dynamic MAC (by choosing a static MAC) and VMQ on all Hyper-V-hosted virtual KACE appliances.
To set the MAC Address to static:
1. Shutdown the KACE Appliance from the graphical interface
.2. Open the VM settings.
3. At the “Advanced Features” under the Network Adapter, choose the static option and specify a valid, unique MAC address for your environment.
Note: Typically, this can be left as the current MAC address, originally assigned dynamically.
To disable VMQ:
1. Shutdown the KACE Appliance from the graphical interface
2. Open the VM settings.
3. At "Hardware Acceleration" under the Network Adapter, remove the check mark for "Enable virtual machine queue".
Note: This setting can be changed without shutting down the virtual machine, but changing this setting with the virtual machine while offline is still recommended.
To disable the "Backup" Integration Service:
1. Shutdown the KACE Appliance from the graphical interface
2. Open the VM Settings
3. At Integration Services remove the checkmark for “Backup (volume checkpoint)
The virtual machine configuration version represents the compatibility of the virtual machine's configuration, saved state, and snapshot files with the version of Hyper-V.
Why upgrade the virtual machine configuration version?
When moving or importing a virtual machine to a computer that runs Hyper-V on Windows Server 2019, Windows Server 2016, or Windows 10, the virtual machine's configuration isn't automatically updated. This means that the VM can be moved back to a Hyper-V host that runs a previous version of Windows or Windows Server. This also means that the VM will not be able to use some new features until the configuration version it is manually updated.
To upgrade the Configuration version:
1. Shutdown the KACE Appliance via the graphical interface
2. Right-click on the VM
3. Click “Upgrade Configuration….”
4. Click Upgrade on the confirmation screen.
5. When the Configuration Version is updated turn up the KACE Appliance.
