DL Appliance volume has a red status "Not valid" (4039052)

Looking at Storage Volumes under Provisioning on the Appliance tab you find a red status next to a Volume Name. If you hover your mouse over the red status you will see the message "Not valid."

This is caused when disk configurations do not align with data in the ApplianceProvisioningConfiguration.xml files. Misaligned data can be caused by:

• Damaged or missing ApplianceProvisioningConfiguration.xml files.
• Creation of appliance volumes (Backup, RASR, Virtual Reserve, or Reporitory volumes) with out using the Appliance Tab.
• Changing of appliance volume configurations.

1. Stop the Core Service.
2. Get the storage volume information:
   1. Download the attached FindApplianceVolumeInfo.ps1.txt file and remove ".txt" from the end.
   2. Open an elevated PowerShell window and run FindApplianceVolumeInfo.ps1 >> C:\StorageVolumes.txt.
   3. The StorageVolumes.txt file will list DeviceID, StorageVolumeID, and StorageVolumeName for all Virtual Disks on the appliance.
3. Get the ApplianceProvisioningConfiguration.xml file:
   1. An ApplianceProvisioningConfiguration.xml file exists at the root of every volume on every virtual disk on the appliance.
   2. In order to see the xml files you may need to select Show hidden files, folders, and drives in View Options for all volumes in File Explorer.
   3. Open  C:\ApplianceProvisioningConfiguration.xml.
4. Compare IDs from StorageVolumes.txt to ApplianceProvisioningConfiguration.xml:
   1. If there is a conflict between the two files, stop the Core Service.
   2. Backup the ApplianceProvisioningConfiguration.xml file and edit it to match the information from the PowerShell script output txt file. Keep in mind the following when editing the xml file:
      1. There are four sections in the xml file and the volumes are entered by their role:
         1. BackupVolumes for Windows backup virtual disk.
         2. RasrVolumes for RASR virtual disk.
         3. VirtualReserveVolume for volumes on the virtual disks provisioned for virtual standby.
         4. RepositoryVolume for volumes on virtual disks that are provisioned for repositories.
      2. Not all appliance have volumes in each section.
      3. Repository MountPoint values must have the complete path to the repository, for example C:\DLDisks\Reporitory_1\disk_9438387539485YTR56
      4. There is no section for the operating system, but a xml file must exist at the root of C:.
   3. Save changes to the xml file.
   4. Copy / replace the edited xml file from C:\ApplianceProvisioningConfiguration.xml to the root of all other volumes on the appliance.
   5. Start the Core Service.

NOTE: Changing data in the file will not break anything. The only affect of misaligned information is a red status on some volumes. Editing the xml file can be complicated, so please open a Service Request for assistance if needed.
