Why are the Toad for SQL Server, Toad for DB2, Toad for MYSQL products noticeably slower than Toad for Oracle? Why is there such a difference in performance?
To answer this question, you will need to understand that Toad for Oracle was developed in a completely different environment than the SQL Server, DB2, and MYSQL counterparts. Toad for Oracle is developed as a WIN32 application in a Delphi environment. On the other hand, Toad for SQL Server, DB2, and MYSQL are developed strictly on the .Net environment. If you compare other WIN32 applications against other .Net applications, you should see that the WIN32 applications are much faster than the .Net environment.
For example, if you compare SQL Server 2000's Enterprise Manager (WIN32 application) to SQL Server 2005's SQL Server Management Studio (.Net application), you should definitely notice the speed difference between the two applications. So if you compare Toad for SQL Server with SQL Server Management Studio, they should have similar performance speeds. Because of this "slow" characteristic of the .Net environment, Toad for SQL Server, DB2, and MYSQL unfortunately inherits this trait and explains why it is slower than Toad for Oracle.
