User gets the following error message when starting up Toad, "Error. The application has encountered a problem. We are sorry for the inconvenience. -1: IP*Works HTTP: Error creating component." Clicking OK allows the user to continue working in Toad.
Toad Tips is trying to download updates from the Internet but is not able to establish a connection.
If Toad can't reach the Internet, it may give the error described when it tries to download Toad tips online. If you're able to get to into the Toad options menu, you can disable this. Go to View | Toad Options | Start Up | and disable "Download Toad Tips Once a Month".
If you're not able to get into the options menu we can try to modify the Toad.ini file. First shut down Toad for Oracle. Then browse to the User Files directory. There should be a file called Toad.ini. In there is a setting MonthOfTipDownload. Try setting it to 4, save the file, then launch Toad and retest.
