What ports are used by Toad for Oracle when to connecting to an Oracle database? I cannot connect to an Oracle database server that is behind a Firewall.
Toad uses Oracle client to connect to an Oracle database. The port numbers used for connections are listed in the tnsnames.ora file. This file can be found in the default directory i.e. "C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\db_1\NETWORK\ADMIN". Oracle Corporation suggests 1521 as the standard port number; however, if a server was setup to accept connections on port 1521, and the server was secure, then trying to issue a connection on port 1525 would not work.
Port Redirection may also occur during the connection process to a database and depending on the operating system (most common on Windows platforms), the Firewall may block the connection or communication on the new randomly selected port number. Please see the link below for more information and solution on Port Redirection issues.
