Workaround:
To rename the Toad for Oracle Application Data Directory folder, find version folder and do the following:
a. Drill to this location:C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Application Data\Quest Software\Toad for Oracle\<version>\
b. Close Toad for Oracle.
c. Return back to the folder path, go up folder, Toad for Oracle.
d. Rename the <version> folder to <version>_backup.
e. Restart Toad for Oracle. One’s user’s settings will be reset.
f. Manually input a connection string and determine if problem persists.
g. If the problem does not, close Toad for Oracle.
h. Return back to the "<version>_backup" folder.
i. Find the three files: conections.ini, connectionpwd.ini and savedsql.dat.
j. Copy these files into the newly created <version> folder.
k. Replace any existing files.
l. Reopen Toad for Oracle again. One should see one’s connections strings and saved SQL again.
Note: For Windows 7 using Toad for Oracle 12.6 : The path is : C:\Users\[windows username] \AppData\Roaming\Dell\Toad for Oracle\12.6
Keep in mind if there is a previous version of Toad for Oracle installed in this machine, it's necessary to rename that folder too, for instance:
C:\Users\[Windows username] \AppData\Roaming\Quest Software\Toad for Oracle\12.5
