Get "There was a connect error..." or "Unable to connect to any..." connecting to a database or running Cross Connection Query -
Description
Issue 1:
When trying to connect to Local Storage the following error is displayed:
"There was a connect error. Check that the username and password are correct, that you have registered this user using the registration tab, and that the registered user has not been disabled
The requested address is not valid in its context"
Issue 2:
When trying to start a cross-connection query builder, the following error is displayed:
"Unable to connect to any of the specified Cross Query hosts"
Issue 3:
When trying to connect to a database, the following message is displayed."Unable to connect to any of the specified Data Service hosts"
Issue 4:
System.InvalidCastExceptionUnable to cast object of type 'Quest.Toad.CloudDB.CloudDBConnectMediator' to type"Quest.Toad.CloudDB.TeamServer.TeamServerConnectMediator". -
Cause
Toad Data Point 4.0 and above require (In addition to MS .NET 4.5 or above) the MS C++ 2015 Redistributable to be installed on the computer. If Toad is installed/distributed using the MSI installer file, there will be no test for this install and the above error will result.
MS C++ 2015 Redistributable is also dependent on other Windows components, so even if it's installed, errors may still occur if all dependencies are not in place. -
Resolution
RESOLUTION 1:
- Uninstall MS C++ 2015 Redistributable (if it exists)
- Ensure Windows Updates are all up-to-date
- Uninstall/Reinstall Toad Data Point using the executable (not MSI) and this will install the MS C++ 2015
RESOLUTION #2:- Make sure Toad is closed.
- Rename the 'Toad Data Point x.x' folder (x.x is the version number), located in C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Quest Software, to 'Toad Data Point x.x old'.
- Rename the 'Toad Data Point Hub Data' folder, located in C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Quest Software, to 'Toad Data Point Hub Data old'.
- Rename the 'Toad Data Point x.x' folder (x.x is the version number), located in C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Quest Software, to 'Toad Data Point x.x old'.
- Launch Toad and test issue.
Note: Doing this will reset your settings, remove your saved connection, and remove anything saved in your Local Storage. However, these can be recovered from the 'old' folders. Please contact Quest Support to find out how to do this, if needed. If this was not helpful, you can return everything by removing the newly created folders in the paths above and rename all the 'old' folders back to their original names. Make sure Toad is closed when doing this. -
Additional Information
VC++2015 has a dependency on Univercal CRT. And the CRT needs all OS updates complete. See this article https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2999226 for additional information
