Error “You will need to install 64-bit (or 32-bit) version of MS Access Database Engine to connect" when trying to connect to an Excel file. -
Description
1. When attempting to connect to an Excel file, the following error is displayed“You will need to install 64-bit (or 32-bit) version of MS Access Database Engine to connect.”
OR"[Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Data source name not found and no default driver specified" error displays when trying to connect to a .CSV text file.
2. In addition, after attempting to install the 64-bit Microsoft Access Database Engine, the following error is encountered:
“You cannot install the 64-bit version of Microsoft Access Database Engine 2010 because you currently have 32-bit Office products installed.”

Cause
Cause 1:To connect to an Excel file, certain Excel and CSV ODBC drivers are required. These drivers, which are included in the Microsoft Access Database Engine, might not have been included in the Excel installation.Cause 2:
Cause of the additional error message: Microsoft does not support the side-by-side installation of different versions of Microsoft Office. If you encounter an error when attempting to install the Microsoft Access Database Engine, remnants of a previous version of Microsoft Office might be present.The Microsoft Access Database Engine is installed, but the architecture (bitness) does not match the Toad Data Point application. For 32-bit Toad Data Point, use the 32-bit Microsoft Access Database Engine. For 64-bit Toad Data Point (4.1 and above), use the 64-bit Microsoft Access Database Engine.

Resolution
Follow these steps:
- Install the Microsoft Access Database Engine. Ensure that you install the Microsoft Access Database Engine that matches the architecture (bitness) of Toad Data Point, either 32-bit or 64-bit. You can download the components at: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=13255 .
- If you encounter the error described above when attempting to install the appropriate Microsoft Access Database Engine, uninstall any remnants of an earlier or additional versions of Microsoft Office 2010 you may have using the Windows Add/Remove Programs feature (Control Panel). Do not uninstall your current version of Microsoft Office.
- Install the Microsoft Access Database Engine. Ensure that you install the Microsoft Access Database Engine that matches the architecture (bitness) of Toad Data Point, either 32-bit or 64-bit. You can download the components at: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=13255 .

Additional Information
If you are using an older version of Excel e.g. 2007 32-bit (and uninstall is not possible) you will have to uninstall 64-bit Toad and install 32-bit Toad to match with the Excel version
