Error "ORA-12899: value too large for column" when adding rows to table in Object Explorer data g (4306878)

Connected to an Oracle database. When adding a row to a table in the Object Explorer data grid, the following error occurs:

"ORA-12899: value too large for column"

Toad appears to be trying to add more characters than the column allows. The column was left blank when inserting as it should take a default value of 'I'

WORKAROUND

Use the editor data grid instead. i.e. In the editor, select * from tablename then add row to results grid
