When connecting to a Sybase ASE using Toad for Data Analysts (TDA), the following error is thrown:
"Client unable to establish a connection"
Incorrect connection information.
Ensure that the correct connection information is supplied in the Login details. If using a hostname in the Server field, try running the following to test connectivity:
1. Open DOS prompt and run the following:
telnet <hostname> <port>
A blank screen should return which indicates that the PC where TDA is installed can communicate to the ASE server via the specified port.
2. Test if the <hostname> used is recognized by the PC:
ping <hostname>
If an error is returned, try adding the hostname and IP address in the Windows hosts file - C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc
3. Confirm that the port specified is the correct port. The port can be determined by opening the Sybase Central console and looking at the properties.
