Error "[Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver] ODBC connection to ' failed".
Description
On attempting to run a heterogeneous query in Query Builder between an Oracle table and Access table, the following error occurs
"[Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver] ODBC--connection to <connection string>' failed".
or in later versions of Toad:
"Direct Connections can not be used with cross-connection queries. Please use an Oracle Client connection..."
Cause
A Direct Oracle connection is made to connect to server which is not supported in cross-connection queries
Resolution
To use an Oracle connection in a cross-connection query, you must install an Oracle ODBC driver. See 'Create Oracle Connections' in the Help for more information.
Note: The Oracle Full Install client includes an ODBC driver. However, if you are using the Oracle Instant client (which may not include an ODBC driver), you may also need to install an Oracle ODBC driver.
