Finalizing and submitting a job

The final steps include setting additional options on the Schedule, Source Options, and Advanced Options pages, submitting the job, and monitoring the progress via the Job Status and View Logs pages. These pages and options are common to all NetVault Backup Plug-ins. For more information, refer to the Dell NetVault Backup Administrator’s Guide.
To finalize and submit a restore job

Click Ok to save the settings, and then click Next.

In Job Name, specify a name for the job if you do not want to use the default setting.
Assign a descriptive title that lets you easily identify the job for monitoring its progress. The job name can contain alphanumeric and non-alphanumeric characters, but it cannot include non-English characters. On Linux, the names can have a maximum of 200 characters. On Windows, there is no length restriction. However, a maximum of 40 characters is recommended on all platforms.

In the Target Client list, select the machine on which you want to restore the data.
 
 
*TIP: You can also click Choose, and then locate and select the applicable client in the Choose the Target Client dialog.

Use the Schedule, Source Options, and Advanced Options lists to configure the any additional required options.

Click Submit to submit the job for scheduling.
You can monitor progress on the Job Status page and view the logs on the View Logs page. For more information, refer to the Dell NetVault Backup Administrator’s Guide.

Recovering the database

After restoring the datafiles, you can choose to recover the database, tablespace, or datafile.

Connect to the database with SYSDBA privileges via the SQL*Plus utility.
SQLPLUS SYS AS SYSDBA

Execute one of following commands based on the required result:
•
To recover a whole database, enter:
RECOVER DATABASE
•
To recover a specific tablespace, enter:
RECOVER TABLESPACE <Tablespace Name>
•
To recover a specific datafile, enter:
RECOVER DATAFILE '<datafile name with complete path>';
The database notifies you when media recovery is complete:
Media recovery complete.
Opening the database for use
After recovery terminates, open the database for use by issuing the following command at the SQL*Plus prompt:
ALTER DATABASE OPEN;

Using advanced User Managed restore procedures

With the User Managed backup method, Plug‑in for Oracle lets you rename the Control File, Datafiles, and Archive Log Directory or Individual Archived Log files during restore. Renaming files can be useful if you do not want to overwrite the existing version and want to create a copy of the file. You can also relocate the files to a different directory while restoring it with the plug-in.
 
 
*IMPORTANT: Renaming of data is not supported when restoring Users Managed backups to a raw device. This option can only be used if you are restoring a User Managed backup to file system storage.
The following sections describe advanced User Managed restores and provide more information regarding additional features that are available:

Renaming or relocating Control File, Datafile, or individual Archived Log files

To rename or relocate (or both) the files during restore

Complete the steps outlined in Preparing the database for recovery.

In the Navigation pane, click Create Restore Job, select Plug‑in for Oracle from the Plugin Type list.

In the saveset table, select the applicable item, and click Next.

On the Create Selection Set page, select the item that you want to rename or relocate.

From the Actions list, select Rename.

In the Rename/Relocate dialog, enter the applicable information, and click Ok.
•
Rename – Enter the new name.
•
Relocate – Enter the new path.
The item is accompanied by the rename/relocate information in parenthesis.

If you want to overwrite existing files of the same name in the new or current location, complete the following steps:
a
On the Create Selection Set page, click Edit Plugin Options.
b
Click the Restore Options tab, select Allow Overwrite Existing Files, and click Ok.

Continue with the restore procedure as explained in Finalizing and submitting a job.
 
 
*IMPORTANT: When renaming individual archive log files during a restore job, you must perform media recovery with SET AUTORECOVERY OFF, and enter the archive log file names manually to indicate the revised file names.
