Upgrade and compatibility


  • To upgrade from a 5.5.x Management Server to 5.7.1 or later, you must first upgrade to 5.6.2 (or a more recent 5.6.x version), and then to 5.7.1 or later.
  • To upgrade from a 5.6.11 Management Server to 5.7.5.x, you must first upgrade to 5.7.1, and then to 5.7.5.x.
  • To upgrade from a 5.7.5.x Management Server to 6.1.0, you must first upgrade to, and then to 6.1.x.
  • Foglight Management Server (5.7.0 to no longer supports authentication of Federation actions (such as clearing alarms) without specifying a secure token in the federation.config file. Previously configured installations in which Federated Master and Children were authenticated without a security token no longer allow authenticated actions. For more information, see the Federation Field Guide.
  • In the 5.9.x release, configuration of SecurityToken in the federation.config file (adopted from Foglight 5.7.0 to was removed. Therefore, configuring an SSL for Federation is required when you upgrade the Federation environment to release 6.1.x from a release prior to 5.9.x, if your Federation environment configures SecurityToken before. For more information, see the Federation Field Guide.

Final platform support notice

The following operating systems are not supported in this release:

  • CentOS Linux® 5.x
  • Microsoft® Windows Server® 2008 R2
  • Novell® SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11.x
  • Ubuntu® Linux 12.04.x LTS

The following platforms are not supported in this release:

  • 32-bit Windows
  • 32-bit Linux
  • Solaris SPARC64
  • Solaris 86-64


Product licensing

Product licensing

Foglight includes a licensing capability that restricts access to those features that are defined in the license. All Management Server installations require a license that grants access to server-specific parts of the browser interface and the features associated with them. Foglight cartridges are also license-protected. While some cartridges are covered by the base Foglight license (such as Foglight Agent Manager cartridges and the Cartridge for Infrastructure), others may require an additional license.

To activate a trial or a purchased commercial license:

  1. On the navigation panel, under Dashboards, click Administration > Setup  > Manage Licenses.
  2. Click Install.
  3. In the Install License dialog box, click Browse.
  4. In the file browser that appears, specify the location of the license file.
  5. In the Install License dialog box, click Install License.

This release is Unicode-enabled and supports any character set. In this release, all product components should be configured to use the same or compatible character encodings and should be installed to use the same locale and regional options. This release is targeted to support operations in the following regions: North America, Western Europe and Latin America, Central and Eastern Europe, Far-East Asia, Japan.

This release has the following known capabilities or limitations: The server will be enabled for Global Operations, but not localized to any particular locale. Some legacy agents cannot support multi-byte locales.
