System Requirements and Guidelines

Foglight for Java EE Technologies gives you the tools you need to monitor the availability and performance of your Java Enterprise Edition (Java EE) applications and application servers. This Supported Platforms and Servers Guide document contains a list of supported platforms for Foglight for Java EE Technologies at the time of publication. In some isolated cases, you may be able to create unique configurations that are not supported by the vendor by using the tables in this document. In these cases, we must comply with vendor support and will not support these configurations.
For additional information about this software release, including known issues, consult the Foglight for Java EE Technologies Release Notes, which can be found in the same location as this document.
This chapter outlines the minimum maintenance patches required to run Java applications. In addition the Foglight for Java EE Technologies Management Server version requirements are provided.
Review the Operating System Patch Requirements, the Foglight Management Server and Agent Manager Version Requirements, and the Nexus Requirements before you install this product.

Operating System Patch Requirements

To ensure the stable performance of Foglight for Java EE Technologies and its agents, your operating system must have the minimum maintenance patches required to run Java applications. Patch requirements are available at the following URLs:

AIX: http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/java/jdk/aix/service.html
AIX 5L 5.3 require patches to run JDK 1.4.2, 1.5, and 1.6 VMs; see the URL above for the latest patch requirements.
•
HP-UX: http://www.hp.com/go/patchmgmt-docs
•
Linux: Check for known problems in the release notes and check that the packages they mention are up to date.
•
Solaris: Log on to the My Oracle Support site (http://support.oracle.com) and open the Patch & Update tab.

Foglight Management Server and Agent Manager Version Requirements

The following table outlines the required versions of various Foglight components, in order to ensure compatiblitiy of Java agents, Nexus, and Foglight.

Nexus Requirements

IMPORTANT: The Agent Manager heap requires at least 1 Gb of memory for the Nexus. Depending on the monitored application, this heap requirement may increase to as much as 4 Gb.
The Nexus requires Oracle (Sun) Java SE JDK 1.6 or 1.7.
The Nexus is supported on the following OS platforms:
