Welcome to Foglight for Infrastructure

Welcome to Foglight for Infrastructure

Foglight^® for Infrastructure provides the ability to monitor an infrastructure environment and to analyze performance issues affecting various host systems. It provides system agents for local and remote monitoring of Windows® and UNIX® (including Linux®) hosts. The cartridge can be used - by itself - to monitor physical hosts, or - in combination with other agents - to monitor virtual hosts. The cartridge provides a service-based dashboard for easy monitoring and for quick access to relevant frequently-asked questions.  

These Release Notes cover the resolved issues, known issues, workarounds, and other important information about the 5.9.3 release of Foglight for Infrastructure. Review all sections before starting the installation.

Foglight Log Monitor

Foglight^® Log Monitor is an Infrastructure utility shipped with Foglight for Infrastructure which monitors log files and identifies activities that can potentially lead to performance issues.

Foglight for PowerVM

Foglight^® for PowerVM allows you to monitor IBM® PowerVM® environments. Foglight alerts you about infrastructure problems as soon as they develop, enabling you to resolve issues proactively before end users are affected. Early intervention ensures consistent application performance at established service levels. Foglight for PowerVM monitors the health of your virtual system by tracking the levels of resource utilization such as CPU, network, and memory consumption of individual objects in your integrated environment.

This release contains the following new features and updates:

Foglight for Infrastructure new features

This release contains the following Foglight for Infrastructure new features and improvements:

• Improved the "Number of Process" alarm message to show the processes count as an integer number instead of a float number. (IC-4112)
• Added the capability of editing MultiHostProcessMonitorAgent through the Infrastructure Environment > Administration > Agents dashboard.  (IC-4005)
• Improvements on the Infrastructure Environment > Administration dashboard:
  • Added the "Select Agent Type" filter on the Agents table. (IC-4069)
  • Changed to retrieve the data based on agents instead of hosts. (IC-4064)
  • On the Agents table, changed "Type Defaults" and "Shared Properties" buttons to "Edit Agent Type Defaults" and "Edit Shared Agent Properties". (IC-4064)
  • Added the new Rule Configuration tab on the Infrastructure Environment dashboard. Functionalities in this new tab only take effects on the Management Server 5.9.2 or later. (IC-3967)
• Added the "Communication Protocol" option in the Agent Properties dialog box, to specify the connection type and port that will be used for WindowsAgents. (IC-3964)
• Added the capability of collecting the HugePages metric for Linux target host. (IC-2445)

Foglight Log Monitor new features

 This release of Foglight Log Monitor is made to accompany the 5.9.3 release of Foglight for Infrastructure. It contains the following new features and improvements:

• Added the new "Hours of Backlog Records" option to specify the time duration of scanning the Log Monitor log. (IC-4063)
• Added the capability of excluding strings from the Log Monitor log. (IC-4054)
• Added the "RegExFileExcludePattern" option in the Agent Properties dialog box, which disables to trigger an alarm for the specified filename or directory. (IC-3902)

Foglight for PowerVM new features

This release of Foglight for PowerVM does not include any new features. It is made to accompany the 5.9.3 release of Foglight for Infrastructure.
