Restoring data with the plug-in and Flashback Database

To run Flashback Database:

In the Navigation pane, click Create Restore Job.

On the Create Restore Job — Choose Saveset page, select Plug‑in for Oracle from the Plugin Type list.

To filter the items displayed in the saveset table further, use the Client, Date, and Job ID lists.

In the saveset table, select any RMAN-based backup saveset, and click Next.

On the Create Selection Set page, select the Flashback Database node.

Click Edit Plugin Options, and then click the Restore Options tab.

Select Whole Database Restore, Mount Database Before Restore, and Shutdown Abort Database First.

NOTE: The database must be in a mounted state to perform a Flashback Database.

On the Post Recovery tab, select Open Database after Recovery and Read Write and Reset Logs.

On the Flashback Database tab, select the applicable Flashback Point Type.
For example, select To Time, and input the time to which the database should be flashed back.

Click Ok to save the settings, and then click Next.

In Job Name, specify a name for the job if you do not want to use the default setting.

In the Target Client list, select the machine on which you want to restore the data.

Use the Schedule, Source Options, and Advanced Options lists to configure any additional required options.

Click Save or Save & Submit, whichever is applicable.

Restoring and recovering data: an overview

Reconstructing the contents of all or part of a database from a backup typically involves two phases: Restore and Recovery. Restoring is the process of retrieving a copy of the datafile from a backup. Recovery is the process of reapplying changes to the file since the backup from the archived and online redo logs, to bring the database to a desired SCN (typically the present, or the point of failure).
Based on your backup method, follow the instructions in the relevant section for successfully performing data restoration using Plug‑in for Oracle.
Understanding User Managed recovery
When a User Managed backup strategy has been implemented, you must manage the recovery process. This process includes the following tasks:
•
Determining what to recover.
•
Restoring the needed files with the plug-in.
•
Performing the recovery process manually outside the plug-in by issuing a series of SQL*Plus commands.
The following sections provide an overview of the User Managed recovery process. Determining which datafiles require recovery
When a media failure or data corruption has occurred, you can use the following SQL*Plus query to determine which datafiles need recovery. This command works only when the database is in an OPEN state:
SELECT FILE#, ERROR, ONLINE_STATUS, CHANGE#, TIME FROM V$RECOVER_FILE;
