Reporting Using Web Reports

Understanding Web Reports

Web reports are a collection of web-based reports that are accessible from the following URL: http://<servername>/UCDiagnostics.

The reports provide a tool to report on the usage of the messaging environment. These reports help you make informed decisions about the various methods of collaboration taking place in the environment.

You can perform the following tasks using Web reports:

Other tasks you can perform include:

UC Diagnostics has a separate web-based reporting component called UC Diagnostics Reports.

UC Diagnostics Reports provides a collection of reports called Preconfigured Reports. Preconfigured Reports allow report consumers to view data across multiple subsections of your organization. You can change relevant report parameters immediately using Quick Filters. UC Diagnostics Reports also provides a Web Report Wizard, which allows you to create customized reports based on any data available in your Web Reports database.

UC Diagnostics Diagnostic Pack for Exchange Web Reports supports both Windows Authentication and SQL Server Authentication. When you select SQL Server Authentication, the installer creates a Universal Data Link (UDL) file to store your SQL credentials. If you would like to protect your credentials to your UC Diagnostics database, you can do the following depending if you have installed Web Reports on the same computer as SQL database, or if you have Web Reports installed on a separate computer.

Web Reports (IIS web site) are installed on the same machine as your SQL database

Change your authentication from SQL Server Authentication to Windows Authentication.

Web Reports (IIS web site) are installed on a separate computer than your SQL database

Protect the UDL file by using New Technologies File System (NTFS) file permissions to guard against connection information being exposed or modified. Then, restrict the SQL account to have read-only rights to your database.

Types of Reports

To get data for a Web Report, you must first create a test. The test you run depends on the Web Report you want generated. For example, if you want to generate the CPU Utilization report or the BlackBerry Any Counter report, you must first run the BlackBerry Server Health Test.

The Web Reports hosts two types of reports: Custom Reports and Preconfigured Reports.

You can create custom reports using the Web Report Wizard. The Web Report Wizard allows you to build your own reports based on existing data sources. You can select fields, filters, format, grouping, and sorting options. Custom reports can be edited, depending on your security clearance within Web Reports. You cannot create a chart from a custom report. You can create a chart from the Any Counter report.

Preconfigured Reports are specific to the application and are delivered with the product.

UC Diagnostics contains the following Web Reports.

Counters with Non-Zero Alarm Values

Some of the monitored counters are subject to spikes, short bursts that exceed a threshold but quickly return to normal levels. To avoid raising unnecessary alerts, each counter has a parameter that is displayed as Alarms To Skip. An alert is raised only if a count exceeds its threshold for a number of consecutive monitoring intervals that exceeds the value of this parameter.

For example, if the Alarms To Skip parameter has a value of 2, then 3 consecutive measurements above the threshold are required to raise an alert.

This appendix provides the recommended values for the Alarms To Skip parameter. Counters that do not appear in this appendix have a recommended value of zero.

If you have created the Server Health tests in a previous release, your parameter values do not change during upgrade. However, the recommended value for a counter may have changed since your previous release. Review the tables that follow.
