SQL Navigator does not pick up the 10g instant client in the connection window under the Oracle Home/Client drop down menu.
If user installed Instant Client manually (creating folder and pasting into it Instant Client files with tnsnames.ora), then the problem will occur as described.
Please install the Instant Client from the CD using Oracle Installer. This option is available only from 10gR2 upward. Not possible for 10gR1 or lower.
The manual installation was introduced when the instant client was first released, but this was replaced in 10gR2 by installing the instant client via Oracle Installer. Note that instant client still doesn't use folder /bin as it is outside Oracle Home.
