Description
On a SQL Server 2005 server, some of the databases remain at level 80.
When connected to this SQL Server 2005 server, the Spotlight console shows a warning message on the 'User Connection' metric. The warning message says to 'ensure that your database compatibility mode is set to 90'. -
Cause
Diagnostic Server checks SQL Server version every time it establishes connection with SQL Server. Thereafter, Diagnostic Server does not run any version checks every time it executes SQL scripts, this is to prevent impact on monitored servers.
The warning displayed on the "User Connection" metric occurred because Diagnostic Server runs a "Check Long Running SQL" which had failed to run in context of SQL Server 2000 database (level 80).
There is no equivalent script for SQL Server 2000, because Microsoft does not provide option for collecting the Long Running SQL for older versions of SQL Server.ÂThe Diagnostic Server runs 'Check Long Running" script in context of MSDB, and it fails when executed against DBs with compatibility level set to 80 returning syntax error. Since â€Logins per secondd†and â€Long Running SQLL†alarms are tiered to the same button (User Connection) on homepage, the warning appears on the User Connection button. -
Resolution
User may consider to suppress the "SQL - Long Running SQL Alarmmâ€. Check out "To configure the Long Running SQL Alarm" in the Help file on how to suppress the Long Running SQL Alarm.
