SQL Server Windows Authentication method results in connection error.
Description

User unable to make SQL Server connection using Windows Authentication. They uncheck "Windows Authentication" checkbox to enable username and password fields and they enter Windows account. Connection fails in Spotlight.
On the SQL server side, the sql error log is reporting that this account is being interpreted as a SQL Authenticated login: "Login failed for user 'xxx\xxx'. Reason: Attempting to use an NT account name with SQL Server Authentication. "
Cause

Windows Authentication used for connection is different than the Diagnostic Server account.
Resolution

There are two methods of connection available in Spotlight:1)SQL Server method 2) Windows Authentication method using Diagnostic Server account.
In order to use Windows Authentication connection in Spotlight, the "Windows Authentication" checkbox needs to be checked. This checkbox indicates Spotlight will use the Diagnostic Server owner account for that connection. Per Help contents: “Select this option to use the user name and password configured on the Spotlight Diagnostic Server to connect to the SQL Server instance.“ If in case this checkbox is disabled and a login account is entered then Spotlight will treat this authentication as SQL Server Authentication.
So as a result in order to use a Windows account in Spotlight, Diagnostic Server owner account needs to have adequate permissions to SQL Server instance.
