Error: "ORA Error: connect failed for database o.dbname - ORA-00600: internal error code, argumen (4243858)

Attempting to activate a configuration file in Shareplex 5.1.7. on AIX results in the following error :-

sp_ctrl > activate config ORA_config
ORA Error: connect failed for database o.dbname - ORA-00600: internal error code, arguments: [], [], [], [], [], [], [.

The event_log contains the following :-

This problem is caused if sp_cop has been started on AIX and the EXTSHM environment variable has been set to 'on' instead of 'ON'.

The EXTSHM environment must be set to 'ON' in AIX prior to starting SP_COP, then immediately unset once SP_COP has started. Sqlplus will not work with EXTSHM set to ON. When setting EXTSHM to 'ON' this must be specified in upper case.
