Why On Demand Tool Creates an X500 Address in the Target Mailboxes?
Description
Why On Demand Tool Creates an X500 Address in the Target Mailboxes?
Cause
The X500 address is added to the target mailboxes during migration to maintain reply-ability. This became a part of a mail task in 2021, previously it was a subtask of Mail Switch task. The X500 address is crucial because it allows the Exchange server to route mail internally. When a user replies to an old email, the Exchange server uses the X500 address in the email header to route the email, not the SMTP address. Therefore, if the X500 address is not added to the mailbox during migration, the user will not be able to reply to old emails. Furthermore, calendar items and especially recurring meetings are highly dependent on the legacyExchangeDN.
Resolution
Understanding the importance of the X500 address in maintaining reply-ability is crucial for smooth email communication post-migration. It’s a common practice to add the X500 address during migration, and the On Demand tool automates this process.
