Symptoms:
The above error pops up when you try to save and add a VTL even if the following applies:
- There are no VTLs on the NetVault Server nor on any SmartClient
- There is no old VTL media left over from deleted VTLs
- The Report "Server License - Capabilities and Usage" shows that the 'LICENSED' "Total capacity for virtual devices" is greater than the 'USED' value
- The (number of slots) * ( Media Capacity) is within the maximum possible value stated by the Report
NetVault enforces the device license check at a global level.
Independently of the action that is performed on Device Management, if there is a single unlicensed item under Device Management, the other actions, such as adding another device, won't be allowed.
For example, if you just upgraded the number of slots in your physical library and not yet applied a license to cover them, any attempt to add a VTL will fail even if you have the proper virtual licensing.
- Reviewing the logs at the time of the unsuccessful addition of the VTL would show messages relevant to what is the cause of this failure.
- Check to see if you have another Physical device added to the NetVault server, if there is one, make sure it is fully licensed.
- Remove the incorrectly licensed device
- Adding the VTL will then be possible
- Purchase a license that covers your physical library's real number of slots and re-add the device. Alternatively to avoid the license infringement, you can:
