Desc: NDMP restore job fails with 'Data operation halted due to unrecoverable internal NDMP server error'. Log message from Filer shows
write error extracting inode <inode_number>, name <name unknown>: No space left on device
Symptoms:
Restore job fails initially with
Data operation halted due to unrecoverable internal NDMP server error
Immediately before this in the log the filer messages showing errors along the lines of:
Information 2010/11/03 09:51:00 1153 Data Plugin BR-HEMEL NDMP: NORMAL 0: RESTORE: Could not set size of /vol/Netvault/restore/387.time_1288777803.pid_79958368/offsetmap to 268435472 bytes: Undefined error: 0
Information 2010/11/03 09:51:00 1153 Data Plugin BR-HEMEL NDMP: NORMAL 0: RESTORE: Offset map creation failed.
Information 2010/11/03 09:51:00 1153 Data Plugin BR-HEMEL NDMP: NORMAL 0: RESTORE: Directories and streams will not be restored.
Information 2010/11/03 09:58:27 1153 Data Plugin BR-HEMEL NDMP: NORMAL 0: RESTORE: Wed Nov 3 09:58:26 2010 : We have read 270998 KB from the backup.

This issue can be resolved either by simply increasing the number of inodes available on the Filer or sometimes increasing the size of the partition on the filer being restored to.
It would be advisable to discuss this with Netapp if this error is encoutered.
df -i will give you the total number of inodes used and free.
There is a filer command 'maxfiles' which can be used to increase the number of inodes.
