Title:How to recover MSSQL V3.903 missing index from nvdb backup
Date: 07/2005
NV Version: 7.1 or later
OS Version: ALL
Application version: MSSQLSERVER 2000
Plugin version: MSSQLSERVER V3.903
Description:
There is a problem with the suggested recovery workaround for the MSQLSERVER V 3.903 index issue not being written to tape.
Whereby to perform a restore once the index has retired from the netvault database and cannot be scanned in from the backup tape
The current suggestion is to recover an expired index from a netvault database backup - however there are problems with this operation when the index has been expired on a retirement date - generation based retirements are not affected.
Currently when the netvault media manager process is initiallized as part of the database restore a cycle of media retirement is executed.
This 'rotation' results in any indice that have breached expiry criteria to be retired and removed from within the netvault database.
Symptoms:
Upon recovering the netvault database the required MSSQLserver saveset still does not appear within the restore gui and the restore is not possible.
#1 Perform a netvault database backup to tape
#2 Determine what date the required MSSQLSERVER backup expired by checking the backup lifespan set within the advanced options tab of the orginal backup job and applying this to the date the backup was run.
#3 Reset the netvault server system date to a time prior to the backup expiry date
#4 Perform a netvault database restore selecting ONLY the 'backup indexes' and 'media manager' objects.
#5 Open the restore gui and check that the required savset is present
