By default, a backup to tape device connected to a windows system will automatically set the format of a blank tape to MTF; a backup to tape device connected to a Linux/Unix system will automatically set the format of a blank tape to CPIO.
You can change from the default setting of MTF on Windows and CPIO on UNIX/Linux; however we do NOT recommend making this change. If you decide to Change from the default settings it is highly recommended that you verify the backups for data integrity.
You can change the tape format on a tape by launching the
1. NVGUI | Device Management | Selecting a 'BLANK' or 'expired' tape and right Click.
2. Choose 'properties', Set the 'Tape Format' to either 'CPIO or MTF' then provide a 'Media Label' and click 'ok' .
You have now set the tape format as you have specified.
Note:
When doing data copy or a Backup involving phase one to phase two Duplication, the target media for both phases must be the same format (CPIO or MTF).
