When adding library pop with "Failed to add device, reason: Failed to build device tree" appears -
Description
When adding physical tape library using add device process fails with “Failed to add device, reason: Failed to build device tree”
When adding the same physical tape library and adding the drive manually no drives are seen
Looking at the library when adding noticed that library reports 6 drives
Checked windows device manger and windows only displays 2 drives
Versified SAN configuration to find that only 2 drives were zoned/connected to the SAN
Progressed with the assumption that NetVault would add the two drives it finds and ignore the drives it cannot find because not zoned/connected. Collected trace for further diagnose.
Note: “Web Service Worker” trace is required to diagnose this issue so this will need to be enabled as not enabled by default.
Analysis from trace extract below we can see the two drive connected reported, it is also noticed that all other drives report “Failed to find drive for bay” then we see the add library process fail with “Failed to build device tree”
