Product & Version: NVSD 1.1, 1.2, 1.5.
OS Version: Windows/Linux
Module & Version:N/A
Application version:N/A
Description:
After a removal of a NVSD device, or some factors where NVSD is no longer seen within the NVBU Device Manager screen, attempts to re-add it back in fail.
Symptoms:
Failed to add Smartdisk Device or Unable to add Smartdisk Device.
Error; NVBU server failed to add the device: Already have a device/client entry for this host
Attempts to add the device by it's IP address, as done previously, fail with the above error.
Using the Name to add the NVSD device also yields the same failure message.
First step is to make sure the NVSD services are up and functional.
Run the following;
UNIX/Linux; usr/smartdisk/foundation/bin/smartdisk.sh status
Windows; \NetVault SmartDisk\foundation\bin\smartdisk.bat status
This should yield the following;
Percolator slave is listening
Windows: check the file ..\BakBone Software\NetVault Backup\etc\foundationmachines.dat.
Linux: check the file ../usr/netvault/etc/foundationmachines.dat.
Since the device was previously added in and now it is not available within the NVBU Device Manager screen the next step would be to check the foundationmachines.dat file.
When you are having problems adding the NVSD device, there will most likely be entries to the IP and Hostname that you had previously used in attempts to add NVSD.
This file, foundationmachines.dat, should only contain currently added NVSD devices.
If you see entries within the foundationmachines.dat file, stop the NVBU and NVSD services, then delete the NVSD entries in the foundationmachines.dat file for the NVSD device. Restart the services and attempt to re-add the NVSD device once again.
