Description:
When running a MySQL restore of a binary log file backup, or point in time backup, the restore will fail immediately, but with no specific error message.
Symptoms:
The restore will fail immediately. There will be just 5 messages relating to the job:
- Starting job …..
- Restoring Databases from…
- Fatal error: Restore failed
- Job Status: Restore Failed
- Finished job…
No further information about this restore failure can be found through the NetVault:Backup GUI.
Reason:
When performing point-in-time restores, only individual database nodes are selectable. If you explicitly select the Binary Log node, the PIT restore job will fail with no reason.
When configuring the restore, ensure that the Binary Logs item is left de-selected and opened. Individual database nodes contained within should then be explicitly selected, according to the databases you wish to restore. As an end result, the Binary Logs checkbox will be shaded grey and it will be marked with a small green check.
