Title: Restoring Windows directories with the same name fails
Date: May-07
NV Version: ALL
OS Version: Linux/Windows
Application version: n/a
Plugin version: n/a
Description:
Explanation as to why restoring folders with the same name fails.
Symptoms:
Windows is not case sensitive and therefore you can only create one directory of the same name.
A Unix Services Application allows you to create directories on a Windows machines from a Unix/Linux box.
Linux being case sensitive, this application allows you to create directories of the same name but using lower and upper case - for instance 'Bakbone' & 'BAKBONE'.
Backup of these 2 directories will be successful, but the restore will fail with the following error message:
Error 2007/05/15 15:12:53 67 Data Plugin bakbone Fatal error while processing item : 'Error reading from media'
This happens because NetVault gets confused about the directories with the same name existing on the Windows machine.
The solution would be to not create directories with the same name, using lower and upper cases, from a Unix box onto a Windows machine.
