"Failed to install software. Package is not for this OS", while creating a Windows Virtual Client

This article explains why the above error message is returned when attempting to create a Windows Virtual Client from a Linux NetVault server.

When trying to create a Windows Virtual Client from a Linux NetVault server, the following error pop up message is displayed in the window:
"Failed to install software. Package is not for this OS, it is for Linux".

The creation of a Virtual Client must be performed from the NetVault Server therefore using its existing cluster aware packages.
When creating a Virtual Client, NetVault scans the NetVault server's ../netvault/packages/ directory for Cluster aware Plugins.
If the NetVault server is under Linux, the default Cluster Aware Plugins for this platforms will be:

File system Plugin for Linux : nvf-x-x-x-x.npk

However to create a Windows Virtual Client, the following Cluster Aware Plugins will be needed:
Filesystem Plugin for Windows : win-x-x-x-x.npk
Exchange Server Plugin: exs-x-x-x-x.npk
SQL Server Plugin :sql-x-x-x-x.npk

Based on the above, if you attempt to "push" a Linux file System plugin on a Windows Cluster node, the operation will logically fail with the incompatibility error.

1- Locate these package from a Windows NetVault Client or download the Windows Cluster Aware Plugins from our website:
Filesystem Plugin for Windows : win-x-x-x-x.npk
Exchange Server Plugin : exs-x-x-x-x.npk
SQL Server Plugin :sql-x-x-x-x.npk

2- Copy these packages under the NetVault Server's ../netvault/packages/ directory
They will now be available in the "NetVault Virtual Client Installation" window under the drop down menu on the right.
This will allow you to install these Windows packages from the Linux server on Windows clients.

Note that the above procedure also applies to cases where the NetVault server is under Windows and the virtual client on a Unix platform. Simply ensure to select the appropriate package according to the relevant OS.
