Product & Version: Smartdisk
OS Version: N/A
Module & Version: N/A
Application version: N/A
Symptoms:
Files exist in the SmartDisk stage areas unexpectedly, and there is no deduplication queue.
Files will remain in the stage volumes for a number of reasons:
1) A backup was performed without the deduplication option selected.
2) An issue with aborted multi-stream backups can leave files in the stage area. The engineering reference for this issue is NSD-115.
The following procedure will identify these files and what can be done with them.
1) Note the filename of a suspect file in the stage area. This is going to be a log hexadecimal string.
2) Search the SmartDisk volume where the Disk Index resides for a file that contains the filename (as a string).
3) If found, open the file to see the details of the NetVault job that created the backup.
To check which volume contains the Disk Index, run the command:
<smartdisk>\foundation\bin\smartdisk config --show
where <smartdisk> is the installation directory.
Note that later versions of Windows Search can have variable success locating file contents, a third party search tool may be needed.
Should it not be possible to locate an index entry (a text file with the filename included inside) then SmartDisk does not need the file and it can be moved or deleted.
If the index entry is located, use the data in the index entry to retire the backup.
