How can I process a workstation or a server locally; for instance, if the computer is not connected to a network, connectivity is too slow, computer is in a remote location or if I want the users to be able to update their own workstations independently?
If you want to update one single workstation or delegate the right to perform this task to another person you can build an MSI package and send it to the user. This will allow you to install and run the utility on a workstation. This process will run without a GUI and is similar to the procedure when Vmover.exe and Vmover.INI are deployed to a workstation and executed there from a command line.
The steps are as follows:
1. In RUM (Resource Updating Manager) go to Actions | Specify Custom Map, select objects and click OK.
2. From the Active Directory Synchronization tab in the Migration Manager console, select Tools | Export to | ini file.
3. From the top drop-down box select RUM (or another wizard if you want to create another package).
4. Check the "create setup for this task" checkbox, name the file, then supply a path with the browse button.
5. Click the bullet button called "task configuration with executables".
6. Select the repermissioning options you wish to process with and confirm by clicking OK.
This will build a .msi package that can be installed on any computer. The installation of the package is simple. After installation has finished the new feature can be selected from the Start menu (program is located under Quest Software). After starting this task, it will immediately run and process the workstation (or server) where it has been installed. It will process this computer as specified in exported INI file.
IMPORTANT NOTE: The tool must be run with local administrator privileges or as a user account that is a member of Administrators group.
