Title
Error 0x8007042b Cannot install AePAgent. Cannot start service. The process terminated unexpectedly. (source=AePwd.PwdInstEx.1) -
Description
Password synchronization between Source and Target Active Directory domains is failing, with the following error appearing in the Directory Synchronization Agent Log file:
01/21/15 22:39:08 (GMT-05:00) Common AcAdSwitches Error 0xe1000051. Cannot compare password hashes, source user: "SourceUser", target user: "TargetUser"

Cause
This issue is caused when the AePAgent is deployed to a configured Domain Controller with antivirus software installed, to perform the password synchronization if configured. When the AePAgent attempts to start, it will crash "terminate unexpectedly" and cause the error seen in the log.
Also, the issue may be caused by "preferred DC/GC" not configured in DSA properties in Agent Manager

Resolution
To resolve this issue, perform one of the following actions:
- Completely un-install the Antivirus software from the Domain Controller in which the AePAgent is being deployed to, restart the Domain Controller.
- Configure the AePAgent to be deployed to a different Domain Controller that does not have Antivirus installed. This is done within the Quest Migration Manager Console by:
- Clicking on the Tools Menu
- Select Agent Manager
- Right click on the server hosting the agent handling the corresponding domain pair, and select Properties
- Input a new Domain Controller / Global Catalog server in the domain in which the impacted Domain Controller producing the error exists.
- Apply, and OK the changes (no resync is required)

Additional Information
This issue was observed in 4 prior service requests, in which each of the potential resolutions had successfully corrected the issue each time and confirmed running Antivirus on the impacted Domain Controller. Simply disabling the antivirus software will not correct the issue.
