  transaction log backup job periodically failing. Error in console UI "Msg 16389, Sev 16, State 1: The connection is no longer usable because the server response for a previously executed statement was incorrectly formatted. [SQLSTATE 08S01]"

• Description

  We have a transaction log backup job that is periodically failing.  When this happens, in the console UI, we see:

  Msg 16389, Sev 16, State 1: The connection is no longer usable because the server response for a previously executed statement was incorrectly formatted. [SQLSTATE 08S01]"

• Cause

  Software Defect. This is being tracked as LS-1893: The error "The connection is no longer usable because the server response for a previously executed statement was incorrectly formatted." occurs from time to time during the tlog backup for many databases.

• Resolution

  WORKAROUND

  Defect fixed in LiteSpeed for SQL Server version 8.9.1. That version is available for download from the URL below.
