How to show File Name Extensions, Hidden and System Folders and Files in Windows 2012
Cause
Resolution
To view file name extensions and hidden items
Open Windows Explorer, select the View Tab and check the "File name extensions" and/or "Hidden items" checkboxes in the Show/Hide section of the ribbon.
To view system and hidden files
Go to Control Panel.
If necessary, select the "More Settings" option to open the Traditional Windows Control Panel.
Select "Appearance and Personalization",
in the Folder Options section, choose "Show hidden files and folders", this will open the "classic" Folder Options menu.
Uncheck the "Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)." checkbox to see the System files and Folders.
Please note that if you did not previously so, you can show the extensions for known file types and hidden files, folders and drives from the same Folder Options menu.
