SESSIONS IN THE OVERVIEW PAGE
Displays the total number of SQL Server processes, comprising both user and system processes. This chart uses the SQL Server Connections Summary collection to display the sql_connection_cnt (total), all_active_connections_cnt (active), sql_inactive_connection_cnt (inactive), and sql_block_cnt (blocked) connections. Active Connections refer to the number of non-system sessions that are actively processing a request in SQL Server. Usually this number increase if there are more logons.
SESSIONS LOGONS
This is the the average number of logins that were collected during the specified time range. Session Logons refer to the number of new database connections. Generally, increased user logons lead to increase application activity which in turn leads to increased workload for the database(s) and underlying hardware.
More information about this metric can be found on the Microsoft website's "SQL Server, General Statistics object" page here as "Logins/sec".
STATUS
The Observed Value for Sessions Logons presently displays average the number of logons during the selected time range. The baseline minimum and maximum values display the typical total number of logons during a similar time range. This could cause the observed value behavior to be lower than the baseline minimum.
Enhancement ID FGSS-I-193 has been logged to display the sum of the number of logons during the selected time range making the value more relevant to the similar baseline values and is already present in the Workload Deviation advisory for SQL PI.
This enhancement will be reviewed by Product Management for consideration in a future release of the SQL Server cartridge.
