Resolution
The rule actions that are available are:- BSMAction
- EmailAction
- Send SNMP Trap Action
- Command Actions
- RemoteCommandAction
- ScriptAction
You can find the definitions and examples of these in the Administration and Configuration guide here.
The only Rule Action that can execute on the Monitored Host is a "RemoteCommandAction"
Reference attached Word document for example of running a remote command.
Create a RemoteCommandAction and define the two mandatory parameters (COMMAND_LINE and Hostname):
Example:COMMAND_LINE: logger System gone down for maintenance
(logger is the command which uses syslog protocol to write to /var/log/messages in Linux)HostName: target hostname
when the rule filed, the text "System gone down for maintenance" was written to the Linux Host's /var/log/messages file.
Viewed the message with:
tail -f /var/log/messagesNOTE: If you have your own remote script, copy that script to the remote monitored host. Then define the command path & full name of the script to be executed in the rule RemoteCommandAction. -
