This article explains how to create a report showing the amount of messages of a different message class for an Exchange Server.
NOTE: You will first need to run mailbox content and attachment gathering against your exchange server. This type of gathering is not included with default gathering and must be run on the Exchange Server separately.
When creating this gathering, under the 'Content Filters' section you will have to select 'All Content'
Under the 'Attachment Filters' section you can select 'No Attachments' if so desired (this part is optional).
After the gathering has finished please follow these steps to create the report:
1. Launch the Custom Reports Creation from the File icon on the main page of MessageStats Reports.
2. At the Welcome screen, CLICK the Next Button at the bottom of the page
3. SELECT Datasource | Mailbox Content - item count by class CLICK Next.
4. SELECT Fields = Display name, Item Class, Items, Server. CLICK Next.
5. SELECT Filter = Server and provide the name of your exchange server, then CLICK Next.
6. SELECT Group = Item Class and CLICK Next.
7. Sorting can be configured at this step but is not required.
8. Under the Format page, CLICK the Advanced Summary Calculations. SELECT checkboxes: Total and Count for Items.
9. CLICK the Finish button at the bottom.
10. The report can now be saved by selecting the File icon on the main page and selecting Save As.
As a result, you will see a report for each message class with total number of messages for your specific Exchange Server.
