Receiving the authentication error when restoring from 3rd party software while using Legato NetWorker Client:
"Error:
Failed to connect to server.
EXSA Error: Authentication Failure."
Guidelines for Extracting a Database Using EMC Legato NetWorker:
1. Install EMC Legato NetWorker Server on a computer with Recovery Manager installed, or on a different computer available on the network.
2. If Recovery Manager and NetWorker Server are running on the same computer, ensure that the computer running Recovery Manager has access to the NetWorker client whose backups you want to use (see Configuring a NetWorker Client later in this solution).
3. If Recovery Manager and NetWorker Server are running on different computers, ensure that:
- NetWorker Client is installed on the computer running Recovery Manager.
- Client for computer running Recovery Manager is created on the NetWorker Server (see Configuring a NetWorker Client below).
- Computer running Recovery Manager has access to the NetWorker client whose backups you want to use (see Configuring a NetWorker Client later in this solution).
- Computers running Recovery Manager and NetWorker Server can access each other by NetBIOS and DNS names.
Configuring a NetWorker Client:
NOTE: The procedures described in this topic may vary depending on the version of EMC Legato NetWorker being used. For more information, refer to EMC Legato NetWorker documentation.
A Client is a computer accessible for NetWorker for backups, recoveries, and archives. NetWorker software automatically creates a client when installing the Server software, but if Recovery Manager and NetWorker Server are installed on different computers, create a client for the computer running Recovery Manager. Also, provide the computer running Recovery Manager with access to Exchange backups.
On the computer where that will run EMC Legato NetWorker, select Start | Programs | Legato NetWorker | NetWorker Administrator.
There are several methods to connect to a NetWorker Server. If the server is already listed in the Network window, double-click the Server's icon, and the NetWorker software will automatically attempt to connect.
If the NetWorker Server is not listed in the right pane of the main NetWorker Administrator window:
1. On the toolbar, click "Connect to Server".
2. In the Server box, enter the name of the NetWorker Server. If the server name is already listed in the server list under the Server box, select the server's name. Click OK to start the connection.
Once the connection is made, a new Server window for that server appears. Take note that an icon for that server appears in the Network window. On that server, you may need to do the following:
To create a NetWorker client:
1. On the Configure tab, click Manage Clients.
2. Right-click the main Clients icon, and select Create.
3. Enter the new client's hostname (the NetBIOS name of the computer) in the Name box.
4. Complete the other attributes as necessary, and click OK.
To grant a remote access to a NetWorker client files:
1. On the Configure tab, click Manage Clients.
2. Right-click the icon of the client to give remote access to, then select Edit | Remote tab.
3. Enter the NetBIOS name of a NetWorker client computer to grant access to the client's files.
4. Complete the rest of the Remote tab as necessary, and click OK.
NOTE: For more information, refer to the NetWorker Administrator Help.
To extract a database using EMC Legato NetWorker:
1. On the toolbar, click to start the New Source Wizard.
2. Click Access backup media using third-party software, then select Legato NetWorker 6.0 or later from the list.
3. Follow the wizard to complete the operation. As a result, the wizard registers extracted databases as restore sources.
NOTE: If working with backups stored on tapes, it is recommended to install Recovery Manager on the computer running NetWorker Server.
