MSA Error: 440 Failed to establish Powershell session

MSA is unable to establish a PowerShell session in environments that only allow HTTPS PowerShell sessions.

MSA log will contain an error similar to the following example:

PowerShellCmdExec::Init TraceMsg 6224 Connect to server 'server-name'. Username: 'domain\username'.
PowerShellCmdExec::Init Error 440 Failed to establish Powershell session (server - 'server-name').

 

Attempting to establish a PowerShell session manually from the MSA agent host with the QMM Exchange service account using HTTP will fail but HTTPS will succeed.

Currently the MSA is limited to opening HTTP Powershell sessions only.

 

WORKAROUND

Configure the Exchange environment to allow HTTP PowerShell sessions.

To manually test PowerShell on the MSA, use these 2 commands: $cred = Get-Credential -Credential 'DOMAIN\srv_QMMExchangeAccount' Enter-PSSession -ComputerName EXCHANGESERVER-Credential $cred The credentials used should be the QMM Exchange service account.
