When connecting with Spotlight on Oracle and select the OS connection box in the connection details, Spotlight on Oracle 5.0 seems to hang for a few minutes before connecting.
With Spotlight on Oracle 5.0 we use the .profile for the Unix/Linux user to connect. If the .profile enables a script to be run on connecting then the connection will hang.
As per the release notes for Spotlight on Oracle 5.0 where it says Connection to a UNIX host: When you connect as an O/S user, make sure that the UNIX account does not attempt to run a script on connection, as this may cause the Spotlight connection to fail.
Please make sure the Unix/Linux user account .profile does not run any script when connecting to the Operating System of the server running your Oracle database.
The issue is fixed within latest version of Spotlight on Oracle version:
