Error connecting: "System.IO.FileNotFoundException: Could not load file or assembly 'IBM.Data.DB2
Description

In Toad for DB2 or Toad for Data Analysts the following error occurs when connecting to a database:

"System.IO.FileNotFoundException: Could not load file or assembly 'IBM.Data.DB2.9.1.0, Version=9.1.0.2, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=7c307b91aa13d208' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified. "

or

"Could not load file or assembly 'Quest.Data.DB2.Admin"
Resolution

RESOLUTION 1:

Remove an entry from machine.config that was placed there by db2nmpcfg.

1. Go to C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\CONFIG
2. Open machine.config file with either Notepad or Wordpad even though its an xml file.
3. Look for the runtime tags and delete everything between including the runtime tags themselves. i.e <runtime> ... </runtime>

RESOLUTION 2:

Ensure that Toad DB2 client is properly installed by checking it’s folder from Start | Program | IBM DB2 | Toad C50. If it is not there, re-install Toad for DB2. If possible, re-install it in a different folder.

RESOLUTION 3: (Toad for Data Analysts)

Try exporting the DB2 Catalog from previous version of Toad for DA

1. Launch previous version of Toad for DA
2. Go to Navigation Manager
3. Click on new connection icon, pick DB2 group
4. Click on the connection wizard icon next to the database alias
5. Click Export Profile (you may need to click >> to see the export option)
6. Select 'Template' and a Profile filename | Next | Finish
7. Close Toad for DA

Launch current version of Toad for DA

Repeat above steps but this time select 'Import profile' and select the file created at step 6.

Once the import is complete, try connecting using your migrated connections, or create a new connection.
Additional Information

Check to see if the TOADCxx DB2 client is installed i.e. Start | All Programs | IBM DB2 - there should be TOADCxx or TACOMxx entry where xx is the Toad for DB2 or Toad for Data Analyst sversion.
If it not listed, uninstall Toad and reinstall. This will reinstall the DB2 client.
