User running Toad experiences random crashes to desktop. No error message is displayed. The issue can happen while using any function within Toad. The user found that Toad crashes to desktop consistently when opening a new Editor from the new Editor icon. The crash does not occur when opening form the menus. Toad for SQL Server abruptly or unexpectedly closes without any error message.
A corrupted .NET Framework causing stability issues in Toad for SQL Server
RESOLUTION 1:
A)
1. Uninstall Toad for SQL Server by going to Control Panel | Add or Remove Programs.
2. Browse to “C:\Documents and Settings\<YOUR_USER>\Application Data\Quest Software\” and rename the "Toad for SQL Server 5.0" folder to "Toad for SQL Server 5.0 OLD":
3. Browse to “C:\Program Files\Quest Software\” rename or delete the “Toad for SQL Server 5.5” folder
B)
1. Uninstall Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 also from the Control Panel | Add or Remove Programs
2. Download and re-install Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1. You can download it via:
http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=22
3. Reboot you computer
C)
1. Install Toad for SQL Server again
2. Launch Toad for SQL Server, if prompted to migrate old settings, select NO or CANCEL.
3. Test Toad for SQL Server and see if issue will be resolved.
RESOLUTION 2:
Run Windows Update (go to http://www.update.microsoft.com/) and ensure all High Priority and Important updates are applied to your computer. Perform a Full Reboot of your PC as well.
