Foglight error "cannot connect to external SQL Server database" during Foglight installation -
Description
During the installation of Foglight 5.5.8.3 - included in SharePlex Manager2.2 - on a Windows Server 2008 R2, Foglight is failing to connect to the External SQL Server 2008 R2 database repository.Some of the errors noted in the FMS logs Foglight Database PanelConfiguring the foglight database...Connecting as the database administrator...Database Install FailedFailed to Connect: Failed to connect to the database as administrator user: adminuserStatus: FATAL ERRORThe administrator user, adminuser, has the right permissions to connect to SQL DB and verified by using the SQl Server Management Studio from the box where Foglight is installed. -
Cause
The error is happening because the DB does not have a properly configured Schannel. WHen a jdbc connection is made to the DB, it is encrypted, regardless of settings selected by the user. This is done to protect the username and password. If the user selects a non-secure connection, then the connection drops to non-secure mode after username and password have been securely transmitted.The troubleshooting suggestions can be found at: -
Resolution
Renaming the SChannel key in registry (per the Microsoft solution listed above) and rebooting the server resolved the issue for Foglight, and both Foglight and SharePlex are able to run normally
