How to setup device exceptions using VID and PID (4298834)

In USB/Port Security, a USB device can be allowed or denied based on its Vendor Identification (VID) and Product Identification (PID).

RESOLUTION 1:

1. In Windows, navigate to Control Panel | Device Manager.
2. Locate the device
3. Right click the device and go to Properties.
4. Select the "Details" tab.
5. Click the property drop down and select "Device Instance Path".
6. This will show the VID and PID of the device.
7. Add the information into the USB Device Exceptions section of the USB\PS element.   
8. Save and replicate.

RESOLUTION 2:

1. Unplug the device from the machine.
2. Locate and delete the "EmbargoLog.log" under:
   C:\Program Files\Quest\Desktop Authority\PortSecurity\Logs 
3. Plug the device back into the machine.
4. Review the new EmbargoLog, the device's VID and PID will be listed.

RESOLUTION 3:

Alternatively to find out the USB VID and PID you can download USBDeview on a workstation that does not have USB Port Security.  Plug in the device and run USBDeview.  The download can be found at USBDeview.
