I have recently installed the newest SQL Navigator on a new machine. I use to be able to use Formatter Plus with Nav by launching it from the menu, but now when I launch it asks me for a key. I try to put in my navigator key, but it will not accept it.
Formatter Plus is the older formatting tool and is no longer being developed. But we still make it available for those with older Formatter options. We suggest user use the Format Options integrated into Navigator. The same features are available and this should be an upgrade from the Formatter Plus technology.
Because of changes in files and directories, Formatter Plus may not be able to pick up the Navigator key that enables the formatter option.
FormatterPlus is still looking for the Nav license key in the install path, whereas the key file has since been moved to the Application data directory. Please do the following:
1. Check the following registry: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Quest Software\LFPATHSQLNav
This should give the installation path of the current SQL Nav that you are trying to use.
ex. This should be the value of LFPATHSQLNav in the registry c:program filesquest softwaresql nav5.5.
2. Search for the license key QSAuthorize12.key
It should be located in C:Documents and Settings\<personal folder>\Application Data\Quest Software\SQL Navigator (or do a search for this file on the whole system).
3. Once you locate the license key file, make a copy of this QSAuthorize12.key file and save a copy of it into the installation directory, the same path of Nav as noted by the LFPATHSQLNav (from step 1).
ex.go into c:program files\quest software\sql nav5.5 and save a copy of the QSAuthorize12.key file.
4. Restart SQL Nav and try to run Formatter Plus again.
