Setting up Federation gave "Communications to the configuration Diagnostic Server failed : Downloading from... failed with response 401 Error" -
Description
After setting up a Federation of Diagnostic Servers, the following error is thrown:
This may happen even in a federation where each the Diagnostic Server hosts does not have firewall enabled and port 40403 is opened. Despite the error, all connections do show up.
Communications to the configuration Diagnostic Server failed : Downloading from https://:40403/api/service/federation/tranactions?fromds=PHX-WN7694%3A3843&version=26.0&since=200001010203004 failed with response 401 Error: HTTP error 401 Unauthorized access denied for user -
Cause
If the Diagnostic Server Service User is a member of a Windows Group, it will cause this error as Spotlight doesn't support nested group authorization at the moment. -
Resolution
WORKAROUND: Please add the Diagnostic Server Service User directly to the Spotlight User Groups.
STATUS: Enhancement request has been submitted to Development for consideration in a future release of Spotlight on SQL Server Enterprise.
