While attempting to uninstall Site Administrator from the system control panel the following error appears:
"Error 1721, there is a problem with this Windows Installer Package" is shown"
During removal of the software many components of the software are called that run various scripted routines. If any of these scripts are missing then the uninstallation cannot proceed successfully. If an error occurs during removal it is most likely that services or contents from the installation directory have been removed before removal of the software or were not installed correctly.
Inside the installation directory (default is C:\Program Files (x86)\Quest Software\Site Administrator for SharePoint\SharePoint Information Portal) there are a number of directories that contain important scripts.
To ensure the uninstallation will be successful you must install another instance of Site Administrator onto another server and then copy the Python25 and IronPython26 folders to the server with the uninstallation issue.
From the command prompt you can then locate the correct msi found in c:\windows\installer and execute an uninstallation using the following command:
msiexec /x /lv! <logpath and name>
This will output to the specifed logfile. If any errors are logged during the removal they will be logged to the designated logfile. Most errors will be for missing files that you can then copy from your working installation into the faulty one and re-run the uninstallation.
